Apartment Residents Duped in Carbondale

Person question mark
Interesting article over in the Daily Egyptian -

"But Thibodeaux said when she moved into one of the brand-new, fully-furnished apartments on July 31, not only were none of those amenities available, but some essentials such as room doorknobs weren’t installed. She and other renters were also promised a private bus to and from campus, a state-of-the-art exercise room and a swimming pool with a hot tub, none of which were available when residents moved in, she said."

I feel for the both the developer and the residents of the community as I am sure the hopes were high on both sides. I am certain the developer did not predict the dire reality of today's economy. The residents bought what was a true story at the time and all should have been good.

The thing I applaud most about this - is the courage of the person who gathered the signatures - I fall for the take charge, stand up for what you believe in go getter every single time.

So in some ways this blog post is a 'hats off to you'

Hope everyone has a compelling week.

Look forward to any feedback you have on the topic -

No Heat!?

Check out the article from today's Daily Egyptian!

I'd like to send a big thank you to our maintenance staff for being so prompt in getting everyone's pilots re-lit.

Ameren CIPS showed up this morning around 8:45 a.m. to turn on Brookside's gas and the maintenance staff went to each apartment to check pilot lights and get everybody's heat, hot water and stoves back on.

Health/Stress Facts You Need to Know!

Young-boy-in-meditation-position-practicing-yoga-with-violet-sunrise

-Some stress can be good. It can increase performance, but once you go past that optimal amount, it can cause physical, mental, and emotional problems.

-Your body's response to stress is to increase protecting functions and to decrease 'non-essential' functions. Non-essential functions are things that your body doesn't have to have right now. These include lymphatic/immune systems, digestion, sexual drives, and body cleansing organs. Common sense would tell you that enduring too much stress for too long and putting these systems on hold is NOT good!

-Research has proven that people who practice meditation over time have less: headaches, illness, pain, insomnia, worry, insurance claims, hospital visits, and surgeries. As if these weren't good enough reasons, they also found that these people had more energy, higher concentration, more positive self-esteem, higher GPA and memory, and look up to a decade younger than they really are. Seriously, it's worth looking into.

-Most signs of aging (a.k.a skin elasticity, bone density, metabolism, strength/muscle mass, body fat, and glucose) are not genetic, they are lifestyle based!

-40% of adults never exercise, 30% rarely exercise. (This is sad guys, come on)

-Exercising gives you time out from worries, raises self-esteem, increases endorphins (natural happy drugs), lowers depression and anxiety, treats insomnia, decreases muscle tension, conditions cardiovascular system, improves immune system, and INCREASES LIFE SPAN.

-People who take time to exercise each day are actually more productive during the rest of the day than people who don't exercise. (Hint: you can actually get more done and be healthier at the same time, who knew!)

-"Sleep deprivation has become one of the most pervasive health problems facing the U.S. Most Americans no longer know what its like to be fully alert" -William Dement

-You need sleep. (Common sense)  Between 7 1/2 and 9 hours, most need specifically between 8 to 8 1/2 hours. If you don't know why the human body needs sleep please let me know and I will be happy to tell you.

-FACT- Alcohol does make you drowsy and you do fall asleep easier and quicker, BUT it also interferes with the single most important stage of sleep. So you actually wake up feeling less rested.

-Our culture does not generally allow us to get everything we need for our bodies. Get a multi-vitamin ,they are good for you.

-Toxins and other harmful wastes build up in our systems, just like a car. Obviously this is bad for you. Do your body a favor and clean it out. Cleansers are made for this purpose. You should have one bowel movement for every meal. It sounds like a lot, but it's whats best for you.

-Natural Herbs. GINKGO-improves memory and blood flow to the brain, GINSENG-boosts energy levels, GOLDENSEAL- boosts immune system, ST.JOHN'S WORT- natural antidepressant, VALERIAN- promotes relaxation.

!~> I know this was a long post. These are all things that every person needs to be aware of. If you found this interesting in the least, please comment and let me know. That way I will know if readers would like to know information regarding health. Thanks for reading! <~!

New Blogger

Hey, my name is Heather. And I've been meaning to start posting blogs, but school really keeps me busy. I guess to build some credibility I'll just tell you a little bit about me.

I'm 19 and this is my first semester at SIUC. I love college, even though I'm not doing that great. I live at Brookside, and love it. I have two small dogs (Gemma & Bella) , a ferret (Bandit) , and a chameleon (Corona). I moved into these apartments last July.

Although Brookside is not the cheapest place to live in Carbondale, I wouldn't live anywhere else. Not only are they one of the only places that allows pets, but the staff is great. The ladies in the office are nice, and the maintence guys are extremely helpful. (They got my car out when we got all that ice, and that was not easy. {I'd worked at it for an hour}) Once you turn in a request, they are very good about getting to it quickly and efficiently. Parking is great and I always find a spot, utilities are included (less worry for you) , shuttle every 20 min that goes to the Student Center on campus, on site laundry, package acceptance at office (you'd be suprised how handy that is),  Weekends are quiet, not really any parties, atleast that I can hear. (if you are a partyer, don't worry, there are plenty on places to go in Carbondale),

To prove that I'm not being put up to saying all good things about Brookside, I will tell you the one and only downfall that I have. I drew the short straw and recently got a really noisy person upstairs. I know for a fact that not everyone is like that. I've had people live above me before and not heard them. And I've talked to my neighbors and they don't generally hear their neighbors. (My advice: if your quiet like me, you should be on the top floor, and if your loud, don't be a jerk. Live downstairs or atleast talk to the person below you and make an effort not to be obnoxious.)

I will be writing about various things, and I swear this will be the only post that is insanely boring. :) I'll write about movies, books, music, events, or anything else that I deem important.

Historical Play at SIU

Raisin in the sun

A Raisin In The Sun

This classic play of the American theater tells the story of an
African American family whose dreams conflict with the realities
of a racially segregated middle class.

Written by Lorraine Hansberry

Directed by Segun Ojewuyi

Thurs.- Sat. at 7:30 pm, Sun. at 2  pm

Season Ticket Prices: 4 shows $48
Individual Tickets: $15 adults/ $12 seniors / $6 children/students
Box Office 618/453-3001

From wikipedia.org:

A Raisin in the Sun is a play by Lorraine Hansberry that debuted on Broadway in 1959. The story is based upon a family's own experiences growing up in the Washington Park Subdivision of Chicago's Woodlawn neighborhood. A Raisin in the Sun was the first play written by a black woman to be produced on Broadway, as well as the first play with a black director (Lloyd Richards) on Broadway. Waiting for the curtain to rise on opening night, Hansberry and producer, Phillip Rose, did not expect the play to be a success, for it had already received mixed reviews from a preview audience the night before.[1]
