Just finished reading The Starbucks Experience by Joseph A. Michelli. Often I come across books that have one or two good ideas that one can put in to practice to make there business better but The Starbucks Experience goes way beyond that.

It gives you the 5 principles that took Starbucks from Ordinary to Extraordinary and within those principles are the mission, vision, values and strategies that make Starbucks Insanely Great!

the small is the new big

Just finished the small is the new big, by Seth Godin.

I am simply speechless! I have been a fan of Seth's since I first read the Purple Cow and subsequently signed up to his blog. I find myself looking forward to his posts on a daily basis.

This book is a compilation of many of the blog posts (riffs) that he has commingled over the last 6 years. Brilliant and over the top worth it! It's beyond "must own," if you don't have it go get it now!

Updates to my Squidoo Site

Added some new books to the currently reading section of my Spiritual Age Leadership website. Remember that you can purchase the books on that site and a percentage of the purchase will go to Charity. So far to date, we have given over $12.00 to 3 charities. Every little bit helps.

Golden Rule

I just finished a book called The Ultimate Question by Fred Reichheld of Bain & Company where he describes NPS (Net Promoter Score). The NPS is based on one question that drills down to the essence of a customers experience with any company and how that affects profits. Moreover, he explains the NPS and its affects in terms of an employee's experience with the companies they work for.

While I don't want to spoil the fun and tell you what the question is, I will say this it's premise is based on the Golden Rule. Steve Farber wrote a great post on the Golden Rule, check it out: The Ethic of Reciprocity. It speaks to the transference of the principle across multiple religions and philosophy's. Take the time to read the web site he refers to and let it sink in, I can tell you I need a lot of work applying this in my life.
