Seth Godin's points again to the need to be memorable and or remarkable if you want to stand out in a crowd. I sometimes look at marketing, print media specifically, in our industry and can't help to think that we are just becoming more and more alike. We all at one point or another adopt the same new technologies or we don't. We all choose color or we don't. We use each other's tag lines or we don't Either choice in any case yields similarity.
