Why are you wasting the Money? A Post by Eric

Although it is late and has been a long day here in Royal Oak, Mikes post tonight really strike a chord, and know I am not up for making any enemies in the Print Ad Business (It is time for them to reinvent themselves, but that is for a different day), but simply put, for us, we at least in our region of SE MI, in our specific and targeted demographic, where we create 400 to 500 pieces of traffic per month, use NO PRINT ADS. They do not work, at least for us, and I do not think they really work for you either. Do you really think people read that print ad stuff? I watch our competitor’s use and purchase large blocks of print ads with little to no result, (it is what they have always done so they keep doing it) assuming you are basing your result on RENTALS and MOVE INS. In my opinion, Print Ads are completely antiquated. Try an interactive brochure on your web site, try a YouTube Video attached to every e mail you send out, add a scripted, colorful brochure to your Craig’s List ads and see if your Traffic soars, and track back your rentals to the traffic source, and tie your advertising resource to actual rentals, If you were a Start Up Company, you would have to do that, stop doing what you think worked yesterday, unless it is still working, if it isn’t do Something different. More to follow………………….

I'm Just a Bagger

Grocery_cart Hands down one of the best inspirational stories I've seen/read in a while. I'll admit I could help but shed a tear. Ok...a lot of tears. I hope you enjoy Johnny, "The Bagger"  as much as I did and thank you to the person who shared it with me. Click Here

Missakit

MissakitI came across this tonight and thought it would be a great random gift for a job well done. That or a prize for meeting a goal. The company targets women but they do sell a masculine version. Pick them up here

Tell me what I don't want to hear

"Seek the counsel of men who will tell you the truth about yourself, even if it hurts you to hear it. Mere commendation will not bring the improvement you need." -Napoleon Hill

Only our true friends will tell us the things we don't want to hear. We often despise our true friends more often than we despise those who tell us the things we want to hear. Isn't it funny that when we want validation we go to the ones we know will agree with our position.

What do you need to hear today that you don't want to hear? Who are you going to call?

Imitate vs. Create

Why imitate when you can create? Ask a question and your mind will surely find answers for it. Maybe it is that it is easier to do so. Maybe it is that you don’t believe you can do it. You’re not creative enough. It’s not your thing.

Creation happens all around you everyday and guess what, it happens at the hand of people just like me and you. Creation doesn’t mean novel, it might very well mean that you take an existing idea and make it better. Tagwold.com is a prime example, it took the Myspace idea to the extreme and now they are posed to over take them in terms of users!

It is a bizarre and ever changing world, it’s time to create your mark. Go for it today. Read this blog everyday and you are guaranteed to get some food for thought.

Teaching the value of Money

Insurance executive Peter Frame uses the following analogy to help people get a handle on how much money a billion dollars represents: "Let's assume that you have a billion dollars and decide to transport the bills to your bank by truck. How many trucks will be required?

By accurately weighing a one-dollar bill, it is found that it weighs 1.02 grams; it will require 445 bills to equal one pound. By computation, it found that the billion bills will weigh 2, 247,191 pounds and require 1,123 one-ton trucks to transport them, with enough one-dollar bills left over to fill a half-ton pickup and still leave $84,995 for pocket change." 59% can't be wrong

Fifty-nine percent of employees in an  Ernst & Young survey said the best way to motivate employees is for managers to show them how their jobs help the company make money. And 77 percent of the managers in the same survey agreed.

Talent First

I don't know John Moore the Blog Master at Brand Autopsy but I can say that I admire his observations deeply and truly. I do so mainly because many of them strike a cord in me and bring forth to words what I innately feel.

This post demonstrates a principle that I believe is the foundation to getting anything of great value done in this world. Check it out at the Starbucks "Employee First" Philosophy

Great work John and thank you for sharing your wonderful experiences from the greatest company on the planet earth.

How to Recognize

Task_list Recognition just like making sure you follow up on that outstanding item is a task. The act in and of itself can be considered a task that should be a part of your daily to-do-list. That is not to discount the spontaneous and unplanned for forms of recognition but rather to draw attention to the fact that it needs to be daily.
